For a better quicker response from HA in SOuth Africa make sure the subject of your email reads:

"Zimbabwean in South Africa applying for the free residency permit"

I still think the police are the ones that really need sorting out. The regular cops do seem to be getting better (albeit off a sub-zero base) but the metro/traffic police?

Subscribe to pigspotter on twitter - some pretty good exposes there. Just today a cop drove the wrong way up a one way street to get to a KFC. I think that just about encapsulates them...

Nooodle - when are you here and where will you be?
Well, it all sounds about as exciting as it was when I left. The fact that so little has changed over a decade invokes a little of the despondency that was so familiar a few years ago. I'll have to learn to see the funny side, and promptly start working on my capacity for being patient.

So, the big move is likely to happen next week, assuming all goes according to plan. Work is taking us to Jhb, the prospect of which is somewhat daunting!

Sorry about the late reply - as you can imagine, I've been lost in the throes of home removals... still don't see the light at the end of the proverbial tunnel.

Incredible, are you currently in SA? How does that affect your residency status/right to work? I assume that, as with other countries, your status is frozen for the length of the application period?

I've never used one - generally do the paperwork myself and send the wife off to queue.

It can be a pain in the arse but at least you retain an element of control. A very small element, granted!!

Hi

I strongly agree with you. SA's home affairs system has improved dramatically and I hope it only continues to improve.
