SA Home Affairs: A breath of fresh air

On a few occasions, and with exceptionally low expectations, I've used the email address [email protected] to contact SA Home Affairs.
Much to my surprise, I've received a prompt, relevant and informed response to every enquiry, often accompanied by additional information expanding on the query.
It would be interesting to hear if anyone else is experiencing the same thing? I'd probably be in for a barrage of opposition if I were to suggest that there might yet be hope for some SA government institutions...

I've been away for over a decade but, perhaps unfortunately, I haven't quite forgotten what's in store for me! I've had a good taste too, recently - I applied for a copy of my birth certificate 5 months ago and no word of it as yet.
Still, I can't deny the Home Affairs good work on the email communication front.
I am looking forward to it though, I guess it helps that the stay is capped by a move to Australia after 2 years.

As Heraclitus said, you can never step into the same river twice.

Then again, he held humankind in contempt and believed that fire was the fundamental element of the physical world. One would think he might have spent a little time in SA?
Will post an update on the move. It should be interesting, to say the least.

Beware of Wikipedia! You can't trust it.

The Licencing Department and testing stations are staffed and managed by the living dead.
Local municipalities are akin to Home Affairs. Randburg, for example, is managed and staffed by the Chuckle Brothers.
I still think the police are the ones that really need sorting out. The regular cops do seem to be getting better (albeit off a sub-zero base) but the metro/traffic police?
Subscribe to pigspotter on twitter - some pretty good exposes there. Just today a cop drove the wrong way up a one way street to get to a KFC. I think that just about encapsulates them...
Nooodle - when are you here and where will you be?

Picture 1 - a cop buying fake DVDs.
Picture 2 - carrying people on the back of bakkies is illegal now...no?
