Question place to holiday in Africa

Hello,
I used to post extensively on this expat board, but in a different place. I lived in the US and have now returned to Britain.
My boys are now 16 and 17 and we would love to visit Africa. Perhaps Kenya or Tanzania, but not sure where to go. We would love somewhere with the possibility of a combo beach and safari holiday. Not looking for top class luxury at all and budget is not huge. But...given the age of the kids I would love to have one last big memorable family holiday with them before they start going away with friends.
We are a bit restricted with school holidays so July or August are our only possibilities. Had done a bit of research into Gabon, would probably have to fly through Paris to Libreville.

As you can tell I am clueless, so any information would be very welcome and much appreciated.

I guess I am a bit afraid of spending all that money and going somewhere where you might as well be in Spain

Thanks in advance, Karin

I'd look at Mozambique - you could do a great beach holiday, and you aren't too far from the Kruger if you wanted to travel via there for a few days at either end. Alternatively, Mauritius is very special, and still fairly reasonable if you are spending pounds - there are decent places there and many are all-inclusive.

The obvious alternative is Kenya - Don't go to far South and you should still be ok.

Good luck, enjoy the holiday - wherever you decide to go.

hi there if you havent found what your looking for yet, i would recommend Ghana, my family immigrated to the uk from there, i've been there a few times, very very safe, full of beaches, very colourful, with loads of historical sites to visit.

only thing is i dont think there's a safari there, however there is kakum national park.

hope this helps.
