Hello, I answered you in the Welcome In thread. I was there in the 60's although was a young girl at the time. If you are looking for more info about Zambia/Northern Rhodesia, there is a Facebook group that has quite a few members there. (My sister is on it) https://www.facebook.com/groups/nrzofnr/ I hope this helps.

Our company has a copper mine not too far from Lusaka and I understand the expats there are just fine. Usual caution required as Zambia is still a poor country but not as turbulent as Zims or SA at the moment. Many of those members on that site have gone back to visit. Lusaka is probably in much better shape than Kitwe, Ndola or Muf. You may be in for a bit of a shock though as what you remember is not what you will see now. I went back about 20 years ago and the road and house I remember had turned into a dusty dirt road with a broken down shell of a house covered with overgrown weeds. Was a bit heartbreaking to see. If you are game to deal with that, I don't see why not.

Sorry only just saw your letter. I was in Zambia from 1966 to 1980 and still have many friends there who seem to live very normal lives in the copperbelt and also in Lusaka. I understand that Lusaka is now a vibrant city. As suggested look on Facebook. There are sites for Mufilira , Chingola, Kitwe and Chililabombwe( Bancroft) and no doubt Lusaka. We went back in 2004 and the roads in the Copperbelt were improving. Have a great time.

I was there with Ministry of Overseas Development in the 1970s - when the "Chimurenga" was going on South of the Zambezi.

I was sonsidering a trip back a few years ago. Before I went, we heard that one of KK's sons had been shot dead. I decided that if someone could shoot a son of the ex-President, I could be shot too. I did not go.
