I'd like to begin a career as an International teacher. I'm considering applying to a position in Asmara, Eritrea. Does anyone have any insight into life in Eritrea? I know about the travel restrictions and have heard it described as a "police state" but only from people who have visited for a couple of weeks or so. Has anyone ever lived in Eritrea? Any insight into life in the country? Keep in mind I'm a single mom with a pretty resourceful 7 year old daughter. I'm not looking for crazy fun nightlife. I'd just like to be some place where my daughter and I could enjoy our time abroad and experience something new.

Bahhhh...I got excited and though you might be responding with some insight. It seems as though it's difficult getting first hand information about Eritrea. I've been looking to move abroad for several years and have explored several routes to doing so. When a door seems to open...I ask.

Many of those crossing illegally by boat to Italy from North Africa are Eritreans. A dreadfully poor country, impoverished further by war with Ethiopia and a brutal dictatorship. Look elsewhere.
