Default Expatriating currency from S.A

I'm thinking of moving to S.A. for 18 months and will be paid and employed by a South African firm. Effectively being a South African resident for tax purposes.

I'm just trying to find out if there are restrictions expatriating my salary and bonus from my time in S.A when I come to leave.

Is it better to get paid gross offshore and settle a S.A tax liability annually or does this pose problems as well?

Thanks in advance!

If you're a temporary resident (not a Permanent Residence permit holder or a SA citizen) and presumably on a temporary work permit, you are not subject to SA exchange control regulations.

Thanks Pablo,

Do you happen to know what the criteria is under which you would be considered a Permanent Residence permit holder?

I'd be moving over on an indefinite South African contract.

If you have applied for, and been granted, a Permanent Resident permit, then you are a Permanent Resident.

I haven't applied for anything yet but just wondering if by default i will fall under being classed as a permanent resident. Can I be a permanent resident and get paid offshore for instance?

Thanks

No. Permanent Residence is a specific legal status. You apply, and it is granted or not granted.

I believe not, but I have not looked at the latest exchange control rules on this.
