Default Opportunities in Australia

Hi all,
I find this forum very informative and the participants very helpful in giving their inputs.
I am a qualified CA (Australia), CPA (USA) and CIA (USA) I'm currently living in the gulf but have my Australian PR. I wanted to seek your advice in my situation on the available options for me for employment in Australia. Is their anything i could do to further prepare myself before i finally make a move. My work experience is 2.5 years audit, approx 2 years banking, 1.5 years logistics, 2 years other private and approx 3 years real estate financial analysis
I'll appreciate your inputs in this.

Thanks.

I shouldn't think so, well I didn't do anything to prepare anyway. Some people would say look at getting the Australian qualification but you already have that.

The main requirement is an Aussie experience. I've been here for over 1 yr via a transfer but my wife and another friend of mine are still looking for job.

Wife is also a CPA-A and studied in Perth. Friend is a NZ-CA and still looking for a job after 2mths.

Not easy but still trying...and don't give up and also no 2 persons are the same.

Just curious as to what city you are looking for work and what kind of experience your wife and friend have.

Heading to Oz in a few weeks, qualified ACCA with 5 yrs experience and threads like this scare me

Thanks

I don't wish to scare you, just highlighting the realities.

Maybe we're overqualified as we all have >20 yrs experience each in various industries in finance, accounts, admin etc. and all of us started in audit many yrs back.

In the case of my wife, we got kids so that may scare potential employers too.

We're in south Sydney abt 25 km from CBD.

Good luck and like I said DON'T give up easily!

When finding a perfect accountant, identify your needs because someone who doesn't serve for your purpose is someone you don't need. Different business owners have different demands. Some want to focus on tax planning and submission while others want to keep a good record and audit. On the other hand, some want to diagnose financial flaws in the company. At the same time, there are also various accountants, each having unique specialties. It is not efficient if you get somebody who does not have matching expertise for the set of services you require because that's much like going to an eye specialist when you have sore throat.

Hey I just completed my MBA/MPA from James Cook Uni, Brisbane. I have been trying hard to find accountant job. But looks like there are not even entry level jobs available in the market. I have around 5 years of work ex in India.

I thought having a local degree will help but loks like its all in-vain.
I don't know what to do. Please please advice.

everyday I am applying for at least 30 jobs but I even don't get interview call.

Thanks in advance.

Jamir,

Do you mind updating us how did the job search go for you? Im looking to move to Australia soon and this scares me, that someone with a local degree and 5 years of experience not even getting called for interview.. :/

Anyone reading this, please also share your thoughts on chances of employment for someone with 3 years external audit experience and near-qualified ACCA holder? Is the hiring activity in accountancy/auditing line of business in Australia now upbeat/dwindling? Will it increase my chances of securing an interview if im already in Australia? How did you find your first job in Australia?

And lastly, anyone who knows of someone looking for extra pair of hand in accounting/auditing, please let me know. Experienced peepz who can help with a point or two to improve my CV, i'll be glad to send it over.

I have contacted recruiters, registered with job boards, but nothing came up. =/ Still looking!

Threads like this are informative & that helps the prospective immigrant to know the ground realities and will prepare us to face it once we are in Australia.

I heard qualified people driving cabs and working in restaurants. I think its for real after seeing these threads here.
Can any one advise me plz - What job I can get just to survive initially when in Australia? I mean till I get a job in accounts or so.

I am a BBM graduate with 8 years of Accounting&Operations experience in Middle East.

Your inputs will be much appreciated.

How difficult have you lot found getting visa sponsorship? And have you noticed alower salary for such positions ?
I have an Irish friend 2 years PQ and he got a position paying 120,000 AUS a this was 2 years ago.

I see lots of job adverts but hardly any visa sponsorships
