most suitable Australian city for accountants
Hi
Was just wondering which Australian city is more suitable for Accountants, Melbourne or Australia, considering the number of vacancies available in each city. I do understand that the salary levels and cost is living is slightly lower in Melbourne, but given its climate and general feel, I think Melbourne will be more suitable to me. But then again, doing a casual search on job sites, I've found almost double the amount of openings for accountants in sydney than in melbourne. Any comments will be highly appreciated.
Thanks

I think it is a bit of a no brainer that there will be more accountancy jobs in Sydney than in Melbourne. It hardly warrants a debate even, there always will be more accountancy jobs in the bigger city and the financial capital, whatever country in the world you chose.
Just go where you want. There are jobs for accountants in both, it doesn't matter whether there are more jobs in one city versus another, you only want one job.
Good luck.

Sydney isn't that much bigger than Melbourne ...
There will be more accountancy jobs in Sydney, but also more people chasing those jobs. Industry focus is a little different - Sydney, more financial/service based industries, Melbourne a little more manufacturing based, Perth more mining/resources.
International companies may be more willing to consider overseas qualifications/experience, however a new migrant should also consider looking for opportunities in parts of Australia where there may be industry but not many Australians keen to work there. A few years in Mount Isa?

Re: most suitable Australian city for accountants
I moved to South Sydney July last yr. Both me and my wife are Aust-CPAs. I've managed to get a posting with my current employer but my wife has to start from scratch. So far, she attended a few interviews but no luck although she has 19 years of experience behind her and graduated from Perth in the 90s.
To improve her chances, she's now enrolled for MYOB at a local TAFE.
As we know it has not been easy getting a job regardless of your Uni qualification and/or CPA/CA etc.... and despite the fact that there is a "shortage". We have not seen any shortage yet being here for a year.
Maybe we missed something or someone could enlighten us where the shortage of accountants are in Aust?
