ICAEW recognition?

Hi all,

Can someone please advise whether ICAEW is fully recognised in Australia?
Or would I still need to consider becoming a CA or CPA for good career progression?

Thanks

ICAEW is well recognised. You may still get an advantage by becoming an Australian CA, which for most ICAEW members is straightforward.

Jeremy and I have disagreed on this in the past and probably will again. I am ICAEW but because I work in industry and on the periphery of accounting (systems, risk, budgeting...) have found the lack of conversion not the slightest hindrance.

I'm doing similar work so that's especially good to hear - thanks.

You can access most ICAA services at member rates anyway, as an ICAEW member.

If you don't need it for legal/statutory requirements, the decision to add the Australian CA qualification would depend on things like:

- do you want to use the CA designatory letters
- are you ok to pay an additional subscription
- do you want to become involved in the ICAA
- do you want to indicate to a potential employer that you are serious enough about Australia to obtain a local qualification.
- do you want to have professional standing allowing you to, for example, certify documents.

Bridging tax/law study is no longer needed for most members of the Global Accounting Alliance bodies, except American CPAs.

Is there any sort of recognition for a part qualified ICAEW student? Im thinking along the lines of a 475 Visa?
