Post Which qualifications are valid in Oz?

Hi there.

I am 25 and looking to start a career in accounting. I would specifically like to get into forensic accounting, but I understand this is a long way off yet, but I have to start somewhere, right?
I currently live in the north of England with my partner. We both share the dream of making the permenant move to Australia. He is currently studying to become a teacher.
I have already been advised that if I start with the AAT courses here in the UK, I may find it difficult to get work in Australia as there is no equivalent qualifcation over there. Can anyone tell me how much truth there is to this?
I am also wondering which qualifications are recognised there, so that at least I have a valid starting point.
Any help or advise on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

AAT is an accounting technician qualification. The holders are accounting technicians, not accountants. Even in the UK, you would not be considered an accountant with this. A recognised accountancy qualification is ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW or CIPFA.

If you had a visa to live in Australia you might pick up work as an unqualified or arguably part qualified accountant. But AAT would not be sufficient to get you the visa.

You also probably should be aware that there is a huge oversupply of both teachers and accountants in Australia. Accordingly whilst those occupations remain on the skills list for now it may not always be the case amd they could be gone by the time you qualify.
