[edit] Things to do in and around San Jose

Winchester Mystery House - overpriced and lacking a real mystery. It's the mansion house of the Winchester family (of rifle fame). Sarah Winchester began construction in 1884 and didn't stop for 38 years, believing that the ghosts of people killed by Winchester rifles haunted the mansion and would only be appeased by continual construction.
Santana Row - best in the evenings, Santana Row is an upmarket shopping street with designer stores such as Gucci, Diesel, Oakley and Ted Baker. There are also many good restaurants on Santana Row, including one of the best Indian restaurants in San Jose - Amber India.
Christmas in the Park - in downtown San Jose at Christmas time. Animated Christmas-themed displays and fake snow! Worth a visit if you have small children.
Shoreline Amphitheatre - very little actual seating, mostly grassy slopes. Take a blanket to sit on! They do get some very well known bands playing, including Coldplay, Gwen Stefani, Moby/Paul Oakenfold and The Grateful Dead. Seats on the lawn are cheap - usually around $30.
