Not Ben Franklins house, but an unpretentious Diner in the heart of the Historic District. It can be found just down Chestnut Street from Independence Hall. The food is simple and plentiful and considering it's location, the prices are very reasonable. Just right for grabbing a bite at lunchtime.

Situated on the corner of 12th Street and Filbert, Maggianos is a great Italian Restaurant with reasonably priced, well cooked food and huge portions. A chain run restaurant, which manages to have a family run feeling.

Located within the Historic District close to Independence Hall and still run by the Carpenters Company of Philadelphia. Carpenters Hall is overshadowed by it's more famous neighbours, but this humble building was home to Franklin's Library Company, The American Philosophical Society, the First and Second Banks of the United States and the meeting place of the first Continental Congress in 1774.

When it opened in 1829 it was the world's most expensive and high-tech prison. This massive building loomed over Philadelphia on a lonely hilltop. It's policy was punishment through Isolation. A very ghoulish tour, but interesting non the less.

A great Museum to visit, featuring the Franklin National Memorial, an Imax Theatre and a Planetarium.

Entry to Independence Hall, Congress Hall and Old City Hall is free and is through the Liberty Bell Center, where security screening can make the queues quite long during busy periods.
Timed tickets are available for Guided Independence Hall tours on the day from the Vistor Center.

Opening hours are 9am to 5pm, security screening closes at 4.45pm.
Ticket Reservations - Timed Tickets can be reserved up to a year in advance at a cost of $1.50 per ticket.

Independence Seaport Museum Tickets include admission to the Galleries, the Cruiser Olympia and a WWII Submarine, the USS Becuna. It's an interesting and well laid out museum with a working boat shop, where you can see small boats being built.
The Cruiser Olympia was Commodore Dewey's Flagship during the Battle of Manilla in the Phillipines in 1898. Tours of the USS Becuna are given by ex-serving submariners, who offer some great insight into life aboard.

Amongst one of the best Art Museums in the world, it has a huge collection of European and American Art. Including works by Renoir, Cezanne, Rubens, Gainsborough, Reynolds, Matisse and Picasso, amongst others. One of it's most famous works is Van Gogh's 'Sunflowers'
For the less artistically inclined, you can always run up 'those' steps and pretend to be Rocky.

Once the private collection of movie theater magnate Jules Mastbaum and now run by the Philadelphia Art Museum. It's a great collection of the works of the Famous Sculptor.

A fun and interesting way to see Philadelphia, taking in the Historic District, The Betsy Ross House, South Street and a trip on the River Delaware. Duck Quakers are included in the price, much to the locals annoyance.
