Please go to any of the three big credit bureaux's websites. Nationally speaking, depending on where you live in the US, you may already be eligible. Please see this map

The Kamya website (very useful for those wishing to emigrate to the US too) contains a page about USC/non-USC couples experiences of buidling up credit in the US. Bear in mind that the experiences aren't dated so some of the info may be out-of-date.
