[edit] How to get there

Located on the Penobscot Bay, it is 40 mins drive from Bangor, Augusta and Waterville. Portland is about 2.5 hours south on I-95.

Route 1 is the main way to get there, and you'll pass through lovely views and neighbouring towns are lovely, such as Camden and Rockland, especially in summer with the many festivals that they have such as Lobster Fest in Rockland.

[edit] Places to Eat

Just outside of Belfast, in Lincolnville is The Tooth and Whale Pub which is a charming pub, the food is excellent and the prices are very reasonable.

In the town of Belfast, a must visit bar is 3 Tides, the margaritas are excellent, the atmosphere is nice and easy going, the food is superb, but the kitchen closes at 9. Don't be put off with the price of the drinks, margaritas between $6-12 because they are huge, easily 2-3 drinks at any other place. There is also a deck for added seating in the summer, and for those who smoke, out on the deck is a closed off section, they also provide out door heating. Seating inside is limited so it is a good idea to phone a head. The bar nibbles are hard boiled eggs. Andijeto and the Pear, goat cheese and green salad is highly recommended, and any of the seafood, which is all fresh and locally sourced.

Dudley's Diner

A real retro feel, greasy spoon, one of the best places for breakfast and lunch, that's all they serve, large servings and low prices, but they only accept cash or cheque.

[edit] Places to See

The local cinema, The Colonial Theatre has a very charming old world feel to it, the tickets are cheap, though the snacks aren't, and some of the screens have uncomfortable seats, but it so worth a visit.

For those who like golf, there are many, many golf courses in the vicinity.

Water Sports, there are many lakes and rivers which are popular for fishing, canoeing and hiking, such as Mt Megunticook, which have many stunning hiking trails which are perfect for families. Parking is also plenty and free.

[edit] Places to Shop

Belfast Co-op [3]

A lovely health type organic food store, best place to get spices and fresh goods, the sausages are awesome, and they also have a lot of seasonal Brit treats.

Green Store [4]

Lovely collection of organic products, the clothing are superb, and a great place to pick up small gifts.

The Cottage Garden [5]

A great place to find lovely gifts for people who like quality home décor.

[edit] Accommodation

During the summer, there are many short term rentals available which are fully furnished and often are cheaper than staying at a hotel or B&B. For the long term, many places are available, for 6 months or longer leases and they tend to be quite cheap, $600-850 on average for a large apartment or small home.
