There are 4 Bank of England banknotes, with values of £5, £10, £20 & £50. As the value of the note increases so does the physical size.

The current £5 note featuring Elizabeth Fry was introduced May 2002.

The current £10 note featuring Charles Darwin was introduced November 2000.

The current £20 note featuring Adam Smith was introduced March 2007.

[edit] £50 Note

The current £20 note featuring John Houblon was introduced April 1994. This note is due to be replaced in 2011 it will feature Matthew Boulton & James Watt. It will use a similar design that is used on the £20 note. The £50 never recieved a new design similar to the current £5 and £10. Although legal tender many shops no not like to accept these. Should you have any problems, stand your ground.

[edit] Withdrawan Banknotes

The following notes are no longer legal tender and shops do not have to accept these. If you have any withdrawan banknotes when you return to the UK you can get these changed at most banks.
