Transferring a UK HGV2 licence to NZ Class 4 licence?

Evening folks,

This is my first post on here, so not sure if this is the right place to post this? Anyway I will give it a shot, I have a question regarding transferring a truck licence from UK to NZ, so if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Ok so the jist of the problem is this, I have come to NZ on a working holiday visa having passed my HGV2 licence in the UK about a year earlier, Basically I wanted to come here and work as a driver, I believe it transfers as a class 4 licence here if I'm not mistaken? Well I went to A.A and have already completed the medical/paperwork and theory test for the Class 4 licence, After that I recieved my NZ licence in the post, A.A then told me I had to do another practical test because I haven't held my licence for 2 years yet in the UK.
Now i have phoned the NZ transport agency and have tried to book a practical test, However they say I have to provide my own vehicle, which i found strange because in the Uk almost 100% of the time the vehicle is included in your testing fee? so i have been trying to find a rental place nearbye but all of the rental places I have tried have been asking for a huge deposit i.e over 2000+ dollars for the truck rental, I just feel this is quite steep! and was wondering if anyone knew a better way to get round this or if anyone has had a similar experience ? maybe i should have waited 2 years before coming here haha
