Carpet Fitting in Australia all advice welcome.
 

Hi all,
I am a 22 year old qualified carpet fitter in England, I am currently working as a self employed contractor and I am registered as a business with the DWP. I want to come to Australia for a 12 month travelling/working holiday but I want to work as a contractor rather than as a employed worker. I would also like to bring a lad with me who also works with me on a self employed basis, I am capable of funding myself and my lad for at least a 6 month peroid without work. So my question is; is this possible? If so how would I go about setting this up eg. Visa's, Tax etc? Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Easiest way is to get a working holiday visa. there are restriction though and the tax rules have just changed so you'll be taxed from your first $.

The restrictions are that you can't work for the same employer for more than six months.

Being self employed is tricky but doable.

What people do once out there, is get employed on a 457 Visa. Your occupation will need to be listed or subject to testing, but it will be much easier to find out the score when you are there.

Sydney and Melbourne are going through a property boom, so try calling some carpet shops and asking.
