Default 1st Class Welder

My OH's welding tickets are due to expire before we leave, is it best to have them renewed before we leave or shall we get them done there.

If best to renew which ones are most in need, which offers him best chance of work. will in fact he need tickets or will weld tests on site be enough

Any info you could give would be great

If he has satisfied the TRA that he his class 1 welder then he will not have any problem getting work,,on arrival he can apply for his ARTC, most sites and employers will test new welders as these codes are generaly held by the company.

as long as he can prove what processes and positions he can weld in, he will be fine.

if he can get up in the morning and weld, he will find work.

I am a Boilermaker who has a ARTC for class 1 welder (boilermaking) if i can help with advice PM me

i agree - no problems getting work. Haven't got round to getting my ARTC yet but went for 2 interviews, got offered both. Weld test will be enough although I didn't even get asked to do that. There's tonnes of work out there on varied rates of pay, usually plenty of overtime if that's for you.

Have just spoke to other half and he said not to bother. (His opinion) On every job he's applied for he has had to do a weld test. He does have test certificates and a copy of the TRA just incase they ask but so far nobody has!

thanks for the replies.

he hasnt actually gone through TRA as welder, because he has 2 trades which run side by side, we opted to do visa as mechanical services and air con plumber.

He does mig, tig etc even some obscure stuff he needed for working in clean rooms of micro chip plants.

He does all the welding jobs onsite if a welder is needed,OH says he can do anything

His other trade mechanical services, we cant find any licensing requirements that he needs very complicated and I cant get answers from anywhere, so we have decided to concentrate on welding. Our main concern is because he has no TRA so no papers will he be ok to get work.

I know you dont have to work in trade that you come through visa in but because he hasnt will work situation be ok

Thanks for any advice
