Default Want to move to Australia - Don't know where to start!

Hi All,
Looking to move to Australia at some point in the future. I'm 25 and Hubby is 29, I have been qualified as a nurse for 2 years now and we were hoping to go to either Gold Coast or Sydney where we have friends. We don't know where to start. I'd be grateful if anyone could throw some information our way.

Thank You

Hello...welcome to BE.

Thank you for taking the time to introduce yourself. We have lots of helpful members who will help you with the immigration process.

It would be best if you post all immigration questions in the Australia Immigration Forum. We have a great bunch of people who post in our Australia Forums...many of them live on the GC or in the Sydney area...they will give you tips and advice on life Down Under. The link I have given you will take you to the main index page of the Australia Forum...at the top of the page you will see a list of sub forums. The top forum is the Immigration Forum...the Main forum is for topics relating to Australia and The Barbie is for general chit chat.

It's worth taking a look at our Nursing Forum and in the BE Wiki...you'll find loads of useful info in there.

Before you begin posting please take time to read through the Site Rules and any stickied threads or announcements that may be posted at the top of each forum's index page.

Kelli28 is the concierge for the Australia forums...so if you have any problems finding your way around our many forums please contact Kelli.

For all other concerns or problems please contact a moderator or admin. Every BE forum has at least one moderator dedicated to that forum...Australia has 4...Cresta57, Monneypenny20,, Sonlymewalter and Alistairboyle.

I hope you enjoy your time with us and don't forget to shout out should you require any help.

I would look at the Australian Governments Immigration site - Particularly the VISA wizard to see what VISA you are eligible for. If you have a city in mind I would start looking at employment websites to see what need there is for people with skills like your own. if you are flying from the UK I would take a trip to STA travel for your tickets - they can even help with the VISA if you're stuck, plus they offer discount to anyone under 26. Other than that I would say save save save - I am trying to scrounge money together to fly over at the end of the month and don't have very much but i'm staying with relatives and hopefully they'll settle with some organ donation instead of taking all my money for rent!!

I know some who have done the visa process on their own successfully. And I did try myself at first. Ended up wasting a few hundred pound, Which I could have saved with a bit more homework I suppose. I used an agent recommended by a friend in the end. Ian Harrop & Partners based in Burford,Glos. Which fortunately was only about 30 miles down the road for me at the time. Face to face is so much easier sometimes. They charged about 1500 pound and you have visa and medical charges on top of that. Expensive maybe but when something gets sent off you know everything is right and no silly mistakes. His staff even call you now and again to make sure you getting on with things. I know they`re looking out for themselves but it keeps you on your toes. When you`re looking at an 18 month process its easy to let a few weeks run past you when getting references and info together. Good luck, And we can recommend the Goldie to.
