UK residents considering moving abroad
Hi all
First poster here!
My names Si and I live with my girlfriend in Devon.
I currently work as a graphic designer (in employment) and am also building my own business up doing the same thing.
My girlfriend works in marketing.
Much of my own graphic design work is gained online via freelance sites.
We are considering (very early stages) a move abroad - she would like usa, me more portugal/spain.
A few probably fairly basic questions;
1 - as my business is mainly online I believe I can keep it running as a UK business? How does this work - do i pay no taxes in the country we move to?
2 - is there any issues with my girlfriend getting a job somewhere else?
3 - I currently need regular medication which is easy enough in the uk (repeat prescription and occasional visit to docs) - how would this work abroad.
Thanks!

Hi Si
Welcome to BE.
We have forums which are dedicated to the USA, Spain and Portugal, where you can chat with Brits already living and working in those countries, who I am sure will be able to answer your questions as well as offer you lots of other valuable advice and information to help you with your quest.
You will find all three of these forums by clicking the 'forum index' tab on the top left of this page. Scroll down the list of countires and you will see the name of each of those countries (Spain and Portugla are under the title of Europe, USA has it's own title).
Double click on the name of the country and you will be in the forum for that place.
The USA has a special forum concerning immigration matters too - this is essential reading as it is a very difficult country to get into and if you don't fit the criteria, you won't get in.
There is also a Wiki (see the blue bar at the top of this page) where there will be lots of information on each of the countries.
Just pop into each of the forums and ask your questions and join in some threads and you will kind of get a feel for the place, as well as lots of useful stuff to help you decide on where to head off to for a new start.
In the meantime I wish you all the very best with whatever you decide to do

Hi Lawtz12,
Welcome to BE. I hope you enjoy being part of our community.
As Dread has already mentioned we have a plethora of different country forums here so the best thing to do would be to read through the forums for the countries you are interested in as you will pick up loads of tips etc, then you can post the questions that you find haven't yet been addressed.
To be honest you might want to rethink the US, it's extremely difficult to emigrate here and doesn't have a points based system like Australia for example. Read through the following wiki pages and see if any of it applies to you:
Pulaski's Ways: How to Live and Work in the USA
Pulaski Simplified
