Hi New here
Well hello, I joined this site last night after finding it whilst trawling google for answers about ESTA's! There certainly seems some well read, knowledgeable and very friendly people here. I own a property in the sunshine state and am coming up for retirement soon so am hoping to spend some quality time there. I hope to be able to add something here and will trawl through the forums and try and spread what little knowledge i have because as i always tell my kids 'Knowledge is power' Anyway, hello

Hi there and welcome to B.E.
I see that you have found your way around and got stuck in with the questions. I'm also an ex-copper. The situation with past convictions comes up often in the Aussie forum also and it can be a nightmare. The general rule seems to be that whatever view the UK might take with cautions, bind-overs and the like, Oz, Canada and the U.S. want to know about them for immigraton purposes.
The people who respond in the US forum generally know what they are on about so it's worth listening to them. Snag is, none of us can read the mind of an immigration official. Oh for the cyrstal ball!
Anyway, enjoy B.E. and give any of the moderators a shout if you need a hand with the site.
Cheers,
A.

I see you've already started to post in the US Immigration and Visas forum. Good for you. I'm sure you'll get great advice from the people who post in that forum. General questions about life in the US should be posted in the US Forum. The Trailer Park is for general chit chat.
Please take time to take a look in the BE Wiki...it's a great source for information.
If you require any assistance finding your way around BE's many forums we have a team of concierges who will act as your tour guide...they will be pleased to help you. The concierge for the US forums is Kaffy Mintcake...please contact her if you need pointing in the right direction.
Any problems or concerns should be addressed to a mod or admin. The mods for the US Immigration forums are Rete, Meauxna, Noorah101, Bob and MsElui.
Please give me a shout if I can be of further help. I look forward to seeing you in the US forums.

Hi Steve
Welcome to BE from me too, and I sure don't blame you wanting to find the sunshine !!
I see someone mentioned convictions etc re immigration. It may be worth contacting your local police who will have a department which deals with the police clearance certificates. They will be able to advise on whether any convictions etc will affect circumstances as they are the ones with current guidelines.
Good luck with your plans and a very happy retirement

Re: Hi New here
I take it from your question that you are heading for Oz?
Do you mean that you are new to forum life or new the immigration process?
Either way, have a good look round the forum; there is loads of information to sift through. Look at the tabs on the top blue bar and start with Wiki and the discussion forum where you will see all the diiferent countries listed, with their sub-sections.
Any problems, give me shout.
Enjoy B.E.
Alistair.
