Potential expat in the making
Hi,
I'm Nick, 25, British. Leaving the UK has been at the back of my mind for the past 5 years or so, although I've not really been in a position to do anything about it. Recently, it's started to become somewhat more of a practical reality, so I thought I'd join up to talk about it, explore the options, etc.
Possible destinations - in decreasing order of likelihood - include Canada, NZ, Sweden /Finland / Norway, or, if I magically become independently wealthy one day , Brazil or Chile.
My motivations for leaving - and so choice of possible destination countries - are somewhat murky, even (especially?) to myself. Hopefully, I'll be able to sort that out before actually making any permanent decisions! - but I have a relatively negative view of the UK, didn't enjoy growing up here one jot, and simply don't fancy entering its housing market or raising a child here. Obviously, I'm bound to suffer from grass-is-greener syndrome as a result. I must remind myself to keep that in mind at all times!
I'm certainly not planning on doing anything in the near term - a job and a house elsewhere might make a lovely 30th birthday present to myself - but, hello, and I hope to have many interesting and enlightening chats with you all
/Nick

Hey Nick...welcome to BE.
I suggest you take a look down the list of countries in the Living and Moving Abroad forum and take a read through the threads in some of the forums. Also take a look in the BE Wiki...there's loads of information in there.
BE is a large expat website...so it's understandable that you may have problems finding your way around our many forums. We have a team of concierges who will direct you around the website. You can find a list of their names at the bottom right hand side of this page.
For all other problems or concerns please contact a moderator...their names are located at the bottom right hand side of each forum's index page. Moderators' names are in bold font.
Before you post please read any 'sticky' threads or announcements that are posted at the top of each forum's index page.
Please give me a shout if you need any help.

Hi Nick
I see Jerseygirl has given you the link to our Moving abroad section whee you will find a list of countries which have their own forums . Check out the forums of the countries you have listed as posible destinations by double clicking on the country name and you're in the forum.
Each forum is full of useful information about life in that country for expats, and you can chat with people who are in the porcess of or have moved to those places and made a life there. In most forums there are some sticky threads which are titled in red, which you should read through.
That just leaves me to say welcome to BE and good luck with your future plans.

Hi and welcome!
My husband is from Sweden and I have spent years researching the pros and cons of a move there, so at least in that aspect I might be able to help you a little.
I do totally get the whole thing of wanting to get out of where you are, and I also think it's good you're looking at it from the grass is greener perspective, that should help a lot in adjusting as well as deciding.
