New here, 60yr old Australian moving to Spain?!?!
Hi, I'm a 60yr old Australian biker researching moving to Spain.
Why Spain, it just attracts me.
Why am I leaving Australia? Regulations on motorcycling have become draconian, bikers are persecuted beyond belief since new state of Queensland VLAD legislation came into effect(google it, sorry am not here for a Oz politics education class)
Looking to converse with any addicted motorcycle freaks living in Spain, need to learn all there is to know, legal acronyms explained, legal loopholes, etc.
I'm a single dad(Mr Mom) 11yr old daughter, so I need good school, prefer coastal area near beaches, secure and stable(a freind suggested the local of Costa Del Sol, any comments?).
Have noticed after searching classifieds that bikes/cars are far more expensive in Spain than here, this really surprised me, specailly Euro cars I thought would be a fraction of the price of Australia.
Anyway that's my intro, please, any Bikers contact me asap.

Just an observation, I thought the anti-bikie laws were in force against outlaw bikie gangs, not bikers who are not generally connected with alleged criminal activities. After living in Oz for 50 years I'm familiar with the subtle difference in descriptions.
Best of luck for moving to Spain.

Hello and welcome to BE.
I suspect your first major hurdle would be obtaining a visa for you and your daughter which would allow you to live in Spain. Were you planning to work in Spain? Do you have any recent British, Irish or European ancestry that would entitle you to a EU/EEA passport?

I figured that would be a problem, no I don't, as a 3rd gen oz & I had figured that would not be possible to use, shame.
I'm going to have some enormous hurdles but accept every law has a loophole that can usually be circumvented, am thinking a local lawyer may be the route to take.
Not planning to work there but rather setup my motorcycle/parts import business there. I will be chancing the move with ltd funds but enough to kick on, I'm very resourceful.
I had successfully(ambiguously) resided in USA for 7yrs from '89-'96, so I know anything is possible.

I would be cautious in thinking an immigration lawyer will help you beat the system. It has become increasingly difficult for non-EU citizens to migrate to Europe. Even if you were able to live 'ambiguously' this is unlikely to be an option for your daughter if you wish her to attend school.

Yeah, was hoping not to hear that.
My Grandparents (mother's parents)were Italian ?!?!? Any help you think? I have all thier old documents, Re: marriage Certs, Birth Certs?
I approached Italian embassy here in Oz but no help.
I really appreciate your input.

The only potential stumbling block is that Italian citizenship could be lost before August 1992 if the Italian citizen in question acquired the citizenship of another country. If your maternal grandparents become Australian citizens before your mother was born then she would not received Italian citizenship from her parents and therefore neither would you or your daughter.

Italian ancestry is one of the best ones as it can be passed on indefinitely to descendants born outside of Italy providing you have the paperwork to prove it. You should therefore be able to obtain Italian passports for yourself and your daughter.

Your mother doesn't need have ever held an Italian passport. If she was born in Australia and therefore received her Australian citizenship by birth then that would not result in her losing her Italian citizenship. What you need to ascertain is whether your Italian grandparents ever naturalised as Australian citizens and if so when. If they never did or your mother was born before they did then you shouldn't have a problem.

It''s filtered down to every citizen(biker or not), as the words biker, bikie not in act, so it can used against any citizen in any organisation.

Living in Queensland, as a former girlfriend of a UK biker, I am appalled by the way normal people are treated just because they want to ride and enjoy their bikes.
My ex ( back home) had invites to join the Road Rats and the Angels, he turned them down, didn't want the risk of criminal associations, and formed his own fun bike club with some mates. We had colours and we went to rallies and we had wild parties and we had fun. We weren't 100% law abiding, i know a lot of them smoked dope ( it just made me drowsy!) and not every bike was always legal, but like most of our friends we weren't hardened criminals and the police didn't view us as such. One mate who was killed in a crash had an escort of over 300 bikes to the crematorium, with police bike escort and road closures. Thats biking uk style.
I hope you get there and get to see the other, freer, side of being a biker

The good news for you, if you head to Europe, is that the whole biker culture is different.
