How very nice to meet you.

How very nice to meet you.
Well, I'm not an expat
I'm a Yank, born in Chicago, raised in Cleveland. I still live in the greater Cleveland area. My mother died an English citizen. I spent a lot of time in England as a child and still get over there every several years.
I stumbled across this site in an unrelated web search and reading your posts brought back a strong emotion for 'me mum' and grandmother and I wanted to thank you all for that. Is it possible to be homesick for a 'foreign' country? I'm here to tell ya, yes.
If anyone has any questions I'd be happy to help any way I can.
Pete

I'm a bit confused with Cleveland...is that Cleveland UK? Also if your mother was British are you British by descent? Either way it doesn't matter...you don't have to be a Brit to join our cyber group.
Those of us living in the US tend to hang out in the US Forums...why don't you pop over there and join in the fun? I look forward to seeing you in there.

Thanks for the welcome folks.
From the lovely Cleveland, Ohio
I'm a US citizen. But my Grandmother would've drawn herself up to her full (not very tall) height, and said with bone chilling iciness, 'I'm ENGLISH, not British' lol.
Hope that's not offensive. My Great Uncle used to call me Yank, I'd call him Limey, then a couple years ago I called an English guy I liked that (as a fond ribbing) and I think I offended him. So please forgive any Faux Pas in advance.

Re: How very nice to meet you.
I thought it might be, she was indeed very English, with the, um, was it floral dresses or floral hats, or both? the scarves... HATED her cane later in life and could outdrink me or my friends at any given time
My mom would lay the accent on a little thick around strangers, people liked it. When I started school I had a pretty thick accent, or as some of my family over there would say, I spoke properly lol.
Not many Americans know what getting your ears boxed means either
