hi there, thanks for your reply. I am looking to work in southern Europe, mediterranean area. Specifically Spain or Greece. I have 5 years experience as a waiter and have acted as head waiter on occassion.

I know I am specifying location but this is not an issue at all.

Thanks Again

Come to think of it I would love to work in the states, no matter how much hassle I'll get trying to get a visa

Welcome to BE.

Sorry...but unless you marry an American it's not going to happen because you won't get a visa for your line of work.

Exactly and it's close and cheap enough to make frequent trips back to the UK.

Here's the link to the BE's European forums.

Your work experience would probably be accepted well in Spain, lots of Brit Expats there and a lot of Brit bars/restaurants too. Good luck

Restaurant work in Greece tends to be seasonal; if you work in Athens, I'd expect you'd need to speak Greek.
The wages weren't great, but I had a wonderful time.

Welcome aboard & best wishes finding *your* place!

It may be an option next year. I'm currently at University (UCLan) looking to study towards a Bsc in Sports Journalism, however I may take a gap year or take something up as a summer job. Would it be too early to be looking for something seasonal?

All help appreciated.

Have you thought about working on a cruise ship? I always thought that sounded like fun...there is probably an agency that fills the jobs on these, try googling it? Good luck

Narrow down where you want to go, and after the first of the year is a good time to start contacting people in the area you want to go to. My employers and friends get really serious about wait staff just before the season opens in about May or so (depending on Orthodox Easter).
