Hello from a hopeful future Brit.
My name is Firefly and I'm hoping to move to either England or Scotland. I heard it is really hard so I'm kind of nervous, BUT I tend to keep a positive mind about things and if there is a will, there is a way.
I joined to try and find out where to start and what to do to get myself (and my mom) on the road to moving overseas by 2020.
Excited to learn more and meet new people.

Hi there and welcome to BE 
The first thing you need to do is see if you qualify for a visa to live in the UK. If you repost here Citizenship/Passports and Spouse/Family Visas (UK) - British Expats you'll be able to get advice from some very knowledgeable BE members. It'll help if you include some more information in your post there, such as which passport/s you and your mum currently have and your age.
