Smile England to US

Hello All-
I am engaged to a British citizen and once we get married he will move here. I have no idea where to start. I have heard conflicting information about whether we should apply for and engagement visa or just wait until we are officially married. Wedding date is Feb 2014. All information will be helpful!
Thank you.

Welcome to BE, good luck and congrats!

The wiki has loads of info about the marriage routes, but basically it's taking 6-10 months to get a visa and it's a case of pick being apart before you're married or after. Unless you're already living in the UK, which opens up another route, though not much quicker.

You could start reading here:

http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/usc...00082ca60aRCRD

There is a waiting period whether you go for fiance visa or married visa.

Since you are not getting married until 2014, you could apply for fiance visa, he enters US, you get married and then adjust status

OR

You could get married, he then leaves and applies for spouse visa CR-1

Both processes take between 6 - 9 months. Its just a case of being apart either as fiance or spouse.

All the above is presuming you are marrying in the US.
