Default British Nurse seeking California Registration

Dear all,

This is the first time I’ve ever joined a forum so please bear with me as I find my feet on this new platform!

Introductions and reasons for joining…
I am a 31 year old British ICU Nurse with over 7 years post-grad experience and having lived and worked in London for a little too long, I am looking for a new start in California, where I have a lot of family and friends.

Having already done some research into how I might get State Registered in California, my understanding is that firstly I need to apply to CGFNS, in order for them to request and validate my academic transcripts. Secondly, I need to find an American college who will allow me to take a top-up course in Obstetrics, Paediatrics and Psychiatrics, which will then make me eligible to take the California Nclex exams.

Does this sound about right? Is there anything else I need to do or do instead of the above mentioned steps? Also, does anyone know of any Californian college/university that would accept me? I read about a British Nurse (FlyingNurse123 I think it was) on this forum who went through this process a couple of years ago and would love to get more information if at all possible?

ANY information, advice or support would be appreciated more than you can imagine. I know that this process is very challenging and time consuming, but I also know in my heart that this is the right move for me.
Many thanks for reading.

Hi and welcome to BE Thanks for introducing yourself and telling us a bit about your plans, which sound very exciting!

For information re all things US you'll need to repost your queries in our US forum.
For questions specifically about the US immigration process and visas, go here US Immigration, Citizenship and Visas - British Expats

For general questions about life in the US, including employment, housing etc, go here USA - British Expats

We also have a forum for health professionals seeking to work abroad, which can be found here http://britishexpats.com/forum/nurse...ccupations-72/

As Dorothy suggests above, your first job is to research if you qualify for a visa. I'm sure the good folk in our US forums will give you some pointers.

We ask all new members to please read the BE site rules, and to contact a moderator if you have any site related problems.

Best of luck!

Hi Dorothy,
Thanks for reading and asking questions. I intend to get the H1-B Speciality Occupation Visa.

spouse of scouse!

Thank you so much for the info. I will indeed re-post in the US forum.

The most appropriate visa for me is the H1-B Speciality Occupation. I already have an employer ready and willing to sponsor me and my educational and employment history meet the H1-B requirements. The only thing outstanding is how to get Registered by CBON!

Thank you for your time and for contributing to this page. Any more info would be greatly appreciated!!!!
