Brit living in California, U.S
Hi all,
I've just discovered the site today having started researching moving back to the UK, as an expat of some 10 years combined (lived in Australia and U.S).
To give you some back story, I'm a 33 year old Brit, from Devon England. Married to a California girl with an 18 month year old son, who was born in America.
I met my wife in Australia in my early twenties, traveling and shortly after moved to Australia to be with her while she studied. After 4 years or so and her graduation, we moved to the U.S and married soon after, as much as a means of staying together, as anything else. After a long and very difficult period spent securing a Green Card, I moved to the U.S in 2011, admittedly with some reservations.
It took me a long time to find my feet in the U.S, and would say only in the last year have I done so, having found a good job and adapted/embraced fatherhood.
However, I have just never felt settled here in the U.S (or in Australia, truth be told), having moved for my relationship rather than any burning desire to leave the UK, or even live abroad — I loved my home in Devon — though I always wanted to see something of the world, which perhaps made me take the leap each time.
And so now, on the eve of 2014, and after years of prolonged homesickness, which has bordered on severe depression — and despite having a child abroad and making every attempt to integrate — I know I now need to go home and would like to begin the process of returning with my family to the UK.
I have heard this will not be easy, so of course, I have questions on this — perhaps someone could help direct me to the right thread to post? And I would love to hear from other expats who have struggled with homesickness — its easy to feel like your the only one going through it.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers and gone.

Hi jimmer. Lots of people struggle with homesickness and where they truly want to be.
I suggest looking at the USA and Moving Back to the UK parts of the site:
