Default Architect looking to leave UK, maybe Canada

Hello All,

I have been working "on contract" for an architects practice in Hampshire, yesterday I was told I probably have 2 weeks left. I was looking in RIBA appointments and saw an architects job advertised in Alberta, I believe my profession is on the list.

I have only been outside Europe twice, India and Sri Lanka for 6 weeks and 2 weeks respectively and loved both countries and I have visited most of Western and Central Europe.

I am 32 which I believe restricts some of my options and have no language apart from English. I have looked and NZ and AUZ to, but I read an article somewhere and Canada could be a safer bet as they are more short of architects. I would be interested in looking at other countries. Are there any countries in Europe not in the doldrums, no VISA needed!

The problem most countries I have looked at there is a long wait of say 6 months to get VISA sorted, it is hard to find a job in the UK and I don't want to hanging around here I do have some saving to tide me over for a while.

I'm looking for another temporary job in the UK to tide me over.

James

Hi James,
Canada is gorgeous, many different areas with many different types of scenery & lifestyle. Alberta is beautiful, right on the edge of the rocky mountains, may be wise to look into the job you saw & take a trip out there to see for yourself. Visa's do take a while to come through but if you have a job you can get a work visa & then apply whilst out there but there are many other people on this site that will be able to give you more info on that ...
Good luck with it
