jon and linda is an unknown quantity at this point
Default First steps to Canada

We are starting to look into moving to Canada. I am a manager/supervisor for a bus company so therefore have a full PSV licence and my HGV class one licence. My wife is a secretary for the NHS...Not quite sure where to start really its all very confusing. I am not sure if my licences count or if I have to retake tests over there or sit some sort of tests here.

Do you have any advice i.e HGV 1 is articulated in this country what is the Canadian equivalent also what is the PSV (coach bus licence equivalent). Any advice would be gratefully received
Thanks

Hello...welcome to BE.

I don't know very much about Canadian Immigration...but I do know we do have a lot of Canadian truck drivers and many Brits asking about trucking jobs in Canada. I think your first port of call should probably be the Truck Drivers in Canada Forum. I recommend your second port of call be our Canada Forums. The link I have provided will direct you to the index page of the main Canada forum. At the top of the page you will see a list of sub forums...the top one being the Immigration Forum. Any questions relating specifically to the immigration process should be posted there. The main forum is for topics relating to Canada and the Maple Leaf is for general chatter. We have a lively group of posters...so you should get many helpful answers to your questions. Please take a few moments to read any sticky threads or announcements that may be posted at the top of each forum's index page.

The BE Wiki is a great source of information...I recommend you take a read through the Canada section.

If you have any problems finding your way around the many BE forums AmyDavid is the concierge for the Canada forums...she will be act as your BE tour guides to help you find your way around.

For any other questions, problems or concerns please contact a moderator. The mods for the Canada forums are Iaink and Christmasoompa...although any mod or admin will be pleased to help you.

Good luck and please shout out if you should require any help.

You have to take a test for a class one. Canada is a big place, you should decide where you want to end up as licensing is provincial. This as link to BC licensing, http://www.icbc.com/driver-licensing...ensed/comm-lic

You also need to figure out how you are going to get a permit, so should look at the Wiki on BE as well as perhaps taking the eligibility quiz here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigra...lled/index.asp

Hello and a big welcome to BE.

Excellent information can be found in the BE Wiki, not forgetting the Living and Moving Abroad forum that will help you, another set of great help is the permanent threads at the TOP of each forum, they are very pertinent to that particular forum and makes sensible reading.

Moderators deal with any problems that arise such as inappropriate posts, spammers etc, you will find their names at the bottom right hand side of each forum's index in bold font.

Please contact me if I can give you any further help.

HGV 1 is Class 1a here, the "a" part is the mandatory air brake endorsement.I believe this also entitles you to drive coaches/buses,but I did have to take a separate test to drive wifey's school bus.Tests are a piece of cake, tending to focus more on the pre-trip inspection than the actual driving,so long as you can use a crash box(double de-clutching for test purposes) it'll be a breeze.Make sure to shop around the driving schools as prices can vary.
