Moving to the US - lots of questions!!!
I'm moving to Iowa in August for a year. Please can anyone advise me on the following?:
Where to get a new mobile phone.
Getting access to the internet.
How to access UK TV programmes - do I need a VPN? If so how do I get one as I'm not even sure what a VPN is!
How difficult is it to open a bank account?
TIA - I'm sure I'll have more questions later!

Do you already have a mobile phone? Get it unlocked and buy a sim card for either ATT MVNO or Tmobile MVNO. Your other option is to buy a togglemobile sim while still in the UK. That way you will keep your UK number and have a new US number.
There is a thread on here for watching UK TV. You may want to look at the britbox service
Bank account or credit union account varies, but normally quite easy.
Internet access is location dependent. Some apartments come with "free" internet.

Hi and welcome to BE
This is the Welcome Inn which is used simply for introductions. Now that we are aware that you will be moving to the US for a short duration and have questions about obtaining services there, may I direct you to the USA forums to post your questions. USA - British Expats
Also please read through the site rules linked above on the beige header before posting.
BTW we have an excellent resource and that is our wiki which is linked on the blue header above.
Good luck with your move to Iowa and the wheat and cornfields of middle America.

Good morning Mr. Ken. As this is the welcome inn I have directed the OP to post his questions in the USA forum for answering. Makes it easier for him to have everything in one place, don't you know
