Just about anywhere but sometimes you won't know it unless you go into the store and look for the key cutter. Near me, the local mom and pop convenience store as well as the local liquor store has a key cutter.

Ahh you are on the other side of the Hudson from me but try looking for a security alarm place in your yellow pages. They will normally cut the keys for you. There are so hardware stores around such as Ace or TruValue (I believe that is the name) who sell hardware and do keys. I have a TruValue near me as well as a small security shop three blocks away and a mom and pop hardware store that all do keys.

thanks for the suggestions, appreciated, Home Depot indeed it was! We went this morning. Been in that store a few times, never saw the key cutting place! Had to ask for it today, just a little stall! Did the job quickly, all good

Yellow pages should have one of those nearby.
It seems around my way at least, the million of vacuum repair shops and a bunch of tailor/leather repair shops also do key cuttings as well as a bunch of jewellers in the mall, the ones with the kiosks usually.

For what it's worth, a van was parked outside my office building the other day. It was full of keys, and a guy on a grinder. Like a Home Depot key kiosk on speed, and wheels!

I did not get the name, it was apparently "low key"

Glad you got it done. As others have said....Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, etc. There's often a place in the local shopping mall too. There's a place in my local mall that seems to do everything - shoe repair, key cutting and God only knows what else!

So after 23 replies already, I'm left wondering where doesn't cut keys, apart from restaurants and undertakers?

Some did actually mention locksmiths, including the OP (who couldn't find one). IMO, independent locksmiths are not that easy to find in my area, though key-cutters are easily found.

I've found, in the areas where I've lived for the last decade or so, that independent locksmiths are easy enough to find, but they're not operating out of storefronts. They are mobile, operating out of vans, and come to you. That translates into expensive for something as simple as getting a key or two cut. It's cheaper to travel to a hardware or home improvement store than pay for a locksmith to travel to you.

Regards, JEff
