"Sausage" sold in 1lb bricks (like butter in the UK), is much better than any sausages I have found in the US, but it may be a regional thing.

Have to admit that I never really enjoyed the sausages at home (I know, heretic!), but here I do enjoy a good Italian hot sausage, Cajun andouille, and various nationalities' versions of chorizo.

Almost two years and i've not found a decent sliced, white loaf. Switched instead to eating brown bread. Nature's Own 100% Wholewheat is really nice and keeps for over a week too. i tend to buy a pair of loaves in BJ's and freeze one... and this is less than the price of one in somewhere like Wegmans or Giant.

Everyone on here saying about the fresh bread is right though... my god, i'm addicted to the Freshly baked Garlic Tuscan bread in Wegmans!

Ironically, the only place i've found sliced white bread/toast that is similar to the UK is in my local diner which i often go for breakfast on a sunday morning after running/gym. I asked them where they got it from and it's wholesale only

These are the two types we buy from Trader Joe's. The Canadian one being a slight preference. Got to the point where this is the only sliced white bread we'll buy, and we have a freezer full of the stuff. It's still not brilliant, but far better than all the other sliced shit we've sampled over the years.

Yes, Randall's has English Toast Bread as well. Baked in house. Randall's Town and Country has it and HEB Bunker Hill carries them, at least those I know as those I frequent.

And, we use a bread baker. And tremendously cut down on the use of bread as it makes us feel ill. I'm amazed how LONG the bread "stays" in the bread bin. Weeks!

My OH didn't understand the 'British obsession' with toast.

Then I tried the bread in the USA and realised the poor buggers have never had a decent slice of bread ever in their life. *sigh*

Another vote for Arnold's bread here - we tried lots of the supermarket bread aisle stuff and most were way too sweet, but the few Arnold's varieties we've tried so far (there are loads) aren't too bad.

They specifically mention that they don't contain high fructose corn syrup - which does seem to be included in most other packaged bread here.

As for sausages (and bacon)... we ordered a pretty huge batch from here which kept us going a while, we're now out but they weren't bad at all, so we'll order another batch soon: http://parkersbritishinstitution.com

Never had a problem getting decent sugar-free bread in San Francisco but I certainly don't look for it on the bread aisle of major supermarkets (apart from Whole Foods).

I have a bread machine and it makes good bread, but since it's just me at home, it makes far too much. As someone said, it's only fresh for one day. I don't like bread that's been frozen and thawed again. It gets mushy, in my experience. I also don't like that I can never slice homemade bread thinly enough. I end up with these hunks of bread that are useless for sandwiches.

I do make a really good flat bread where I just use the machine for kneading and rising, then I do my own baking. Now that is delicious!
