What's up with the Bread here?!!

Re: What's up with the Bread here?!!
Here lies the answer -- don't buy a branded, pre-packaged bread from the bread aisle. Most supermarkets (round here, anyway) have a bakery section quite distinct from the bread aisle and its sawdust concoctions. In the bakery area you'll find all kinds of different breads -- and some are really good. I love a nice olive oil or roast garlic ciabatta.

Contrary to almost everyone else here, I have never had a problem finding bread with little or no sugar in it - look for a "low carb" bread, or some whole grains loafs, then look at the ingredients info, and if it says 2g of sugars, or less, then you should be good to go!
Bread that tastes sweet is going to be in the 5g-8g range.

We go to a "European" grocery - it has foods from all over the world (including Jaffa Cakes in the "ethnic biscuits" aisle), but they also have a bakery that makes good, solid German sourdough bread and we stock up and freeze it so we don't have to drive over there every week. Bread freezes and thaws surprisingly well.

I know what you mean. Sometimes I just want sliced bread that doesn't taste sickly. If I do buy it from the bread aisle, I go for the sliced Jewish rye bread which seems to have a lot less sugar.

After 12 years, I still haven't found a pre-sliced loaf that I like.
There's some pretty good stuff in most bakeries though.

Thanks everyone ... I'm going to now start trying the fresh bakery section in supermarkets ... All the Bakeries in our area parading around as 'French Artesan' bakeries are also selling the same sugary rubbish ...
I've given up trying to find a half decent cheddar that doesn't look like it's been dyed yellow ... there are some exhorbitant cheese options in Gelsons and whole foods but I'd hate to have them in my regular toastie ...
I've tried some Italian sausages which are half decent but still haven't found anything to compare with home ...
