Once again proving that immigrants will do the jobs Americans aren't willing to do.

I had expected you, or someone, to cite Melania Trump as an example of what Donald will do to immigrants!

A different, but not wholly inaccurate interpretation.

Ahhh, they are going up in December. The announcement was made about 2 weeks ago.

Fees will always go up, it's part of life. I doubt in reality that marriage based visas will go away, but they may be slightly marginalized in favour of skills based visas.

As always with immigration, take the next step in your journey (file petition, apply for EAD, greencard, remove conditions, file N-400) in a timely manner to avoid any surprises.

And my thoughts are that they will rise again in the first half of next year. I can't see many folks in the US getting upset that immigrants have to pay more, so this would be an easy win for Trump.

Why should they be. We encountered an increase in fees when my husband was going through marriage-based visa immigration.

The potential immigrant wants a benefit, they pay for it. Simple to me.

Besides the president doesn't set the fee so what does it matter who is the president.

Because Trump has announced tighter controls and more checking - which I suggest won't come without a cost. Someone has to pay that.

You seem to think I disagree. I don't. It is quite fair that visa applicants pay for the costs, and for those costs to rise as the cost of processing rises.

The original question is in the thread subject. My answer is simply that one impact will be an increase in costs for the visas. No big deal, just an answer.

Cancelling DACA etc would release resources to speed up processing.

There will probably be an increased difficulty in acquiring H1B visas, however that is a matter of law and not executive action so he would need support from Congress to get any changes put through.

As a businessman I suspect he would be more likely to ask congress to increase the number of H1B's than to decrease the number. That said, I believe that "no change" is the most likely outcome.

I believe the costs are going up fairly soon (December?) but unsure if he would put another rise on them during his presidency.

I agree with the others. His main concern was illegal immigration.

Trump specifically mentioned about the J1 and H1B private sector programs. Both of those programs are in trouble.

The EB5 program may be in trouble as well.

But who knows, he is not exactly consistent.

As for the OPs question. I think that the USA will make marriage visas harder to obtain. Trump talked about the San Bernardino attacks as an example of bad vetting and a broken system- she came in on a family visa, and the friend who supplied the guns was involved with a green card fraudulent marriage.

No it wouldn't because a lot of them would claim asylum.
