Spoke to a wonderful idiot at the Careline who told me there is nothing I can do, and that it is 4 weeks from the point my card is charged.

I have a travel date of 5/15 and it's not looking at all promising.

They really should outline the entire process and update the site.
LOL, 4 weeks since credit card charged is a joke & yes they do need to update the site & be clearer.

Mine was charged 6 weeks ago & still nothing back, I called careline last week & all they could tell me was it was with a passport examiner & to await a call back by thursday (today) & if no one called me to call them on the monday again *sigh*

It's only a name change so I really don't understand why it is taking them so long.

Time Line;

Passport Recieved: February 28th
Payment Taken: March 24th (Cleared 26th)
Phonecall Placed: 22nd April

Status: Still no Passport as of 28th April (9 weeks since recieving & 6 weeks since charged)

Wow, that's pretty amazing and for only a name change? What did you have to pay for that, just out of curiosity?

Anyway, our time line wasn't too far from two people on here that have already received their passports. But to this day its been 7 weeks since they received the renewal app and contents and 3+weeks since our cc was charged. So I'm willing to give them until next week, but after that I'm going to want some answers. This is getting pretty silly....

Same amount as applying for everyone else renewing or applying for their 1st adult passport ($224 with the charges to send it back to me), the only reason I did it was a Canadian official said I should have my passport in my married name & not the maiden name as it causes less problems later on.

Irregardless if he did or not, if someone official tells me to do something of course I am going to do it.

That's not smart. Officials are not all-knowing, etc.

It was Canada Sevices in connection with my residency application, it's supposed to save some problems & time with applying with different identification, so to have all in same name is better apparently.

I'm not daft enough to follow everything that is 'suggested' or otherwise, but if it's going to save time & problems then yes I will do it. Also I want to legally have my husband's name on my passport anyways, rather than just use my marriage certificate as that is not always accepted nowadays without photo identification being in the name you use

I think you may be misunderstanding the "legal" aspect. While you might assume your husband's surname (which is permitted), it is not actually your legal name. The only way it becomes your legal name, is to go through a court process to actually change your name. The downside to that is if you ever divorce, you can not simply revert back to your maiden name without a court order.

Anyway, I understand what you're trying to do, so good luck to you. I grew up in the north end of Toronto and spent many, many years back and forth between Toronto and Windsor... I've been in and through KW many times! Lovely area.

This is appalling.

They have closed down many of their places around the world where passports are issued: eg. they've stopped issuing them at the British High Commission in Singapore and they have to be mailed to Hong Kong.

Same story for British residents in Switzerland, the passports have to be sent to Paris.

My passport expires early next year and one is supposed to have six month's validity on it to enter most countries (and I generally travel overseas approx every 6 weeks as spouse is on an expat posting in the Far East.

I'm wondering if it would be best to get a passport issued in person at the passport office on my next trip to to the UK (and I bet it probably wouldn't cost any more than the incredibly expensive passport applications issued to expats at the British Embassies and High Commissions overseas)

Yup, get it done in the UK....or FedEx it to a UK relative to do it in the mail and FedEx it back...I did that and it was about 10 days from sending it to my mother.

Thing is, all passport renewals are supposed to be heading towards the UK, I think they were supposed to have started but doesn't look like they have yet.

I did my undergraduate degree and my first graduate degree at the University of Windsor. Of course, that was before they built the casino!
