Hello,

I would greatly appreciate some feedback on the following.

I'm applying for my first adult UK passport in the US. Having read the FCO web site, I understand that I may be asked to attend an interview as part of the application process. All of this is explained here.

I live on the West Coast and do have limited time & budget for travel to Washington, DC.

Questions:

1. Do I really have to travel to the Passport Production Centre for the interview?

2. Can the interview be conducted in my local British Embassy?

From what I can tell, if you are selected for an interview, it must be done in person at the passport office, the only one of which is at the Embassy in Washington, DC.

For what it's worth, I submitted a first time adult application earlier this year, and I did not have to attend an interview. They say "some" people "may" have to interview, but they are completely vague about any criteria in selecting people for interviews.

I applied for my first UK passport this year and I didn't have to attend an interview.

I did and had to travel to Washington DC for it.
