Oink used to live in Portland, I think he said he was a teacher there, you might want to ask him.

I remember meeting a girl from Boring, Oregon, when I asked why she left she said: "You have to ask?"

I moved from Oregon to the UK, and then to Canada.
Oregon is awesome. Portland is one of the best cities anywhere.
I lived in McMinnville outside of Portland, but went to school in Portland.

Check out Powells, and Jakes!

We live in the Portland Metro area now. Lived all over and Oregon is beautiful. Not as much rain as England and not as much rain as Oregonians make the rest of the world believe either but its a great state. People are getting jobs here, the cost of living is less than say CA and PA, not sure about other states. Portland is an amazing city with people from all over and a few expat meetups some great pubs, cafes etc but I still find myself "homesick" for England and I am the American in a British / American family.

Interesting what you say about the rain. What are the main things you miss about the UK, and what would you miss about Oregon/US if you did move back?

I'm moving to Portland on Friday!

I have been twice before and prefer it to any other US city. It is so green, the people are very friendly and the food rivals London's for choice which is impressive, given the size difference...

I am also getting into the Portland Timbers (I am an Arsenal fan), I was so taken aback by the energy at the games last summer at Providence Park...it rivals the Emirates!

I'll be sure to post about what it's like living there 'full-time' I don't have any kids so can't comment on schools and such

Cheers,

KC

Cheers mate.

No job lined up. I'll be looking for Business Analyst work, starting next month. I am coming on a K-1, so can't work until I get my EAD.

Just wondering how it's all going since your move, K_London. Any updates you can share?

While you have spent 2 years pondering, that has been a big property spike in Portland. Most properties sell fast in a bidding war, and rents are becoming unaffordable.

I bought my house here in Portland 2009 and price has gone up 50%. I can still affor to move back to England. Rents in Beaverton and Hillsboro are slightly cheaper, What sort of job are you looking for?
