Default Toys r us / bankruptcy protection

What does filing for bankruptcy protection actually mean and is it still safe to order online?

It's the bubba's first birthday in just under 3-weeks and I had my eye on a few things to order for delivery. Would you? Obvs I could also shop on Amazon...

Order from Amazon.

The protection means they can keep operating while restructuring.

It means you may not be able to return goods, but you will probably be OK. I would try target or walmart instead. That is if you want to be able to touch and see what you are buying.

I think I would rather see/ touch before these purchases so I'll try both stores as you suggest. Amazon can be the fallback position.

I would like returning goods to be an option.

Also means I'll likely steer clear for xmas shopping too.

TRU will be around for a while, but like a number of brick-and-mortar retailers they're probably 2-3 years into a ten year train wreck. I certainly wouldn't worry about them spontaneously combusting in the next six months, or even the next 36 months.

Unlike the clothing and department stores that are hoping to hang on longer than their equally weak competitors,.and survive by picking up the customers from failed businesses, TRU has the misfortune to have Amazon and Walmart as its main competitors, and neither of those are going anywhere!

Buy from Toys R Us with confidence.

Chapter 11 bankruptcy is temporary protection from creditors while they re-organize. It's not a liquidation. Consumers won't even know anything has happened if they aren't reading the news.

Filing for Chapter 11 has probably extended the company's life a few years, if anything.

I have lost count of the tens of thousands of air miles that I have flown on carriers that were in Chapter 11 ...
