Wouldn't have thought it'd be as much as in Europe, given the "pay for everything mentality" of the healthcare system etc
don't know much about what they get but I did read recently that a huge family bought a 3 family house under a relatives name and claimed they were renting all 3 floors the second and 3 rd floor was living quarters and the first floor they turned into an indoor swimming pool.......they bought a house and the government was paying for it and a pool to boot

Your fears are unfounded. There are many thousands more Northerners like you living in NC, especially in the Triangle where I live. You'll probably be quiet at home with the accents and foods...

As far as I know the WHOLE valley is PORN central... we see enough "Stars" around here... in fact a friend of mine (english guy, quietest most respectable guy on the planet) recently accidently ended up with a porn stars number and proceeded to try and talk her into coming into our work and doing some voice overs for a whore character... very funny... when you know him.

i love the life out here in NC....i used to live in leigh near manchester...
i miss my 16yr old son Matthew the most....(had to leave him behind with my last nutter partner)
In England I was an engineering cad design draftsman with 9 years drawing office experience qualified to HNC mech eng.....I am struggling to find a similar office technical job here in NC and that is making me stressed and unhappy....For the moment i've had to take any job and so i'm working on a process line with about 200 blacks and I can't tell a word they're saying - but it's a wage at least......
I keep sending off my resume to all the technical design job ads...but no replies....I feel as though my 9 years technical experience in England means nothing here in the US. Everything here in Raleigh NC is geared for US experience and US quals. The main avenue for technical jobs is nearly always through agencies who forward your resume on to their client.....I think they see my British experience and quals and throw the resume away. I feel if I could just get an interview I would be more succesful....I was very good at my job in England, very good using AutoCAD with loads of mech design experience of machinery......I know I could live with these US technical engineers here as I had to work closely with British design engineers qualified to Msc and I did okay working with them for 9 years - (if only they could be given a chance....)
other than my frustrating work situation...life is great out here in US.....much better than grimmy England

Find US equivs for your qualification and skill sets because to be honest, they couldn't give a shite about the UK ones, means nothing over here, and need to show that you have good understanding of imperial measurements...have a small pdf portfolio of some amusing tech drawings and email those with resume, not a cv....a mate did tech drawings of himself at a desk with the details being his cv, sent that off with a regular cv, got a laugh and job out of it.
I'm in the same boat of struggling to get a job, so hang in there
