This pastor managed to achieve some pretty amazing things through his persistence, and somehow managing to talk to the right people. I heard about this as it was all happening as I know many people who go to this church and often chat with the pastor when I see him around town. It may not necessarily change much in the long term, but still pretty impressive how he returned one man to his family when he was in detention and in the process of being deported, and the knock-on effect this has had for others in the same situation.

I wasn't sure about that bit; whether there was something in it, or if it was just poor research.

I remember something from a year or two ago when Dubya tried to get this passed... but IIRC, it didn't. So, I agree... poor research. Sadly though, now that it's in print, everyone will assume it to be correct and when they try to apply for a GC in another couple of years they'll get quite a rude awakening.

I'm guessing that they were alluding to Cancellation of Removal, which is very different from 'Applying for a green card'. So I agree, poor research.
