At the end of the day it boils down to what you are used to.

Thats the long and short of it.
I would think taking on a different country, culture, etc. and having no family or local friend support built in would be terribly difficult.

I would imagine so. I'm sure it helps if the spouse is the USC, hopefully there'd be some "second-hand" friends and family around then.

Not saying it's not still difficult, just thinking it'd be even harder when both husband and wife were UKCs.

I was going to say almost the exact same thing, except my DH is a yank but his family are a pain and live hundreds of miles away anyway. Plus he was a single dad for years with no time for a social life so friends of his are hardly flocking at the door.

And as someone else said, I might vent my frustrations here, but I'd never go to a Yank-Expat board full of homesick Americans and tell them their country sucks just because I don't like certain things about it.

This is the point isnt it, we all feel the same, we all bitch about the country we are in but at the end of the day its all about what we are used to.

Some one said to me about living in the USA

"its different, it does not make it wrong but just different"

I beg to differ but I get the point as I know you all do.

For me I would rather go with what I am used to which for the main part means people who dont have to get a diary out just to have a cuppa!

Elvira, if I were close enough to you I would be there now having the cuppa!!! hehe xxxx

Would you?
I'd think it would be harder as your spouse might not understand what you are going through.

But understand your point of ready made friends..but then they aren't really yours so it is hard all round.

lol some families are best far away, true.

And sure, fair enough comment re where to express frustration. As the yank, I figure on this board, you're entitled to it, and I should mostly not take offense.
