Its just the population broken in to ten equal groups, so the top 10% ( or tenth decile) drink on average 72 drinks a week.

Looks like a big chunk of America has a drinking problem.

Does seem to be the drinking extremes though...either people don't drink, or they drink a lot...and inevitably, everyone drinks and drives and thinks you're a moron if you suggest getting a taxi or being a designated driver

To get into the top 10% you need to be knocking back 18 bottles of wine, or 3 x 24-can cases of beer, or 4½ bottles of spirits, a week!

If you could persuade the top 10% to cut their consumption to that of the next highest 10%, the total amount of alcohol sold would drop by 60%!

I think I am drinking more or less the same as just before I left the UK but that was too much in my opinion. It will cut down fairly soon though, in London I was going out after work anywhere between 4-8 pints at least twice a week. I blame the recession for causing too many leaving drink parties. In New York it is not the same culture in my team to go drinking after work.

At my peak here I got through a liter of Rum a week. Plus a few beers.
I drink a lot less now i have kids.
I still take Milk Thistle, an herbal supplement that detoxifies and protects the liver.

I was wondering about that Bob but the jury is out.
Do you feel it helps?

I swear by the stuff when I know i'm going to be drinking a cheap bottle of red.

As to the OP's question - having spent the afternoon in Poor Phils, Oak Park, IL, I am going to project that my drinking will not go down once we move Stateside

Lack of hangover is my crude bench mark. When I don't take it, I feel rough after cheaper red wine. Non-scientific I know, but it works for me

Sounds worth a try anyway...I concur.
Haven't had a hangover in decades though. I put it down to the gallons of Tetleys I consume.

I had liver tests done (blood work) about 6 months ago and everything was fine.
My doctor recommended them when i told them i have a drink every day.
I have a drink before bed as i have sleep apnea and have to sleep with a mask on with air getting blown in my face. 5 years now and i'm still not used to it. A drink helps, last night was a bottle of old speckled hen. Too much drink ruins my sleep.
