Bit high where I live too....also pretty high in NH...Maine also has high property taxes, as a ratio of average salary, it would be some of the highest in the country....but as the average salary is shit, it doesn't seem to bad for those out of the state.

Having to pay extra for school bus is a bit cheeky though....oh and the town rubbish bags, $17.50 for ten bags, but neighbouring town it's only $8.50 and then further out, $5.50....annoyingly, there's only a handful of towns that require these bags...$20 pick up minimum for anything that doesn't fit in the rubbish bag either

Nice.
Our house is about the same size in California and we paid $1900 for the year.

Thank god we aren't in NJ

California; $6,500/yr; 2,700 sft home. Based on 1.1% of appraised value at time of purchase (~$440k, 1994) plus an adjustment factor for inflation each year. My neighbor bought an identical house for about $1m; his tax is probably double. Thank goodness for 'prop 13'.

Arizona; $1,100/yr; 1,300 sft home, just purchased.

Isn't that the truth, without prop 13 we'd have had to move a long time ago.
We bought in 93 thats why ours are so low. most of our neighbors paid $500,000 and more, so there taxes are high, no wonder many of them are now for sale and auction by the bank

True, but practically speaking, when it gets down to the point where it's just the two of you AND you are at a certain age, what more "stuff" that takesup room do you need?

Exactly. Also there are way way more important things to do in life than spending time cleaning...

large house (still 4 of us for the next few years) extortionate heating/cooling bills and property tax at $10,000....looking forward to sending the kids to college and moving into something smaller (but with college fees it will probably even itself out!!)
