You can call visa/mastercard and report the retailer for doing either of those.
There was an article on last night's news about this. It's legal to charge more for a credit card transaction if they state it on the price sign.

Even if it is in tiny writing at the bottom of the sign.

Technically that's not true, but just because of the wording. You can offer a discount for other payments, like some gas stations do, but you can't add in a 50c charge to use a card. So, technically you can charge more for a credit card transaction compared to other forms of payment, but only because you are discounting not surcharging.

Gas has finally fallen to a price under $3.00 a gallon around where I live. Two days ago it fell below that price, believe it or not.

They can if they prominently display that it's a cash price only...they'd be buggered if you got gipped for the price without them stating it's for cash only.

They get charged anything between 5-10% transaction fee depending on how much business they have...

You need to get over this side of the river Rete...$2.39 in East Hanover. Hehe my husband proudly got home last night and said he'd filled up at a gas station selling regular for $2.79...I soon burst his bubble.

I don't want to jinx anything, but any bets on it going under $2.00?

I dunno if it will get that low. OPEC will cut production if the price keeps falling I imagine. That probably won't send the prices rising again, but will stop them from falling further.

I heard on NPR that North America alone is using 1.6 million barrels less a day than it was at the height of the oil price rise.

Not planning on visiting the relatives in NJ until around Xmas so I guess I will just have to contend with the NY area's higher rates.

Apparently OPEC are having an emergency meeting November 17th to talk about cutting production.
