1.82 in St Louis! I'm still shocked to this day how expensive gas is in England compared to here!

The cost of living on the West coast.

Oregon is currently the sixth-most-expensive state in which to buy gasoline. California is the most expensive, followed by Hawaii, Alaska, Nevada and Washington.

I paid $2.899 per gallon yesterday at an ExxonMobil gas station. Costco's gas is cheaper by about 20 cents per gallon, but I only needed 10 gallons, and I won't drive 10 miles (to the nearest Costco) for the sake of $2.

Interesting. The 20ยข lock-step diffential that we noted in the past, is gone. .... Based in part on the prices Sultan has posted for northern Illinois, I have suspected for a while that local competition is driving prices a little lower than they would be otherwise.

I now understand why electric cars are more popular on the West coast. The gas is almost 50 % more expensive. I wonder if that will ever change.

What will change is the western states will replace the lost tax revenue from people driving electric cars, because electric cars don't use highly-taxed gasoline, by mileage charges on electric cars, and also on hybrids, which use much less gasoline

IMO the chances of the rest of the country increasing fuel taxes to match those on the west coast is slim at most.

They have been trialing charging tax per mile in Oregon over the past year. This was an opt in scheme. The way it worked is they would refund the gas tax and charge you the per mile tax. It used a GPS device plugged into the OBD port.

Well it ain't gonna be voluntary for electric cars for much longer! .... I think the tax credit for buying a Tesla is about to end too.
