Re: Price of gas update...
It went down to 1.17/liter overnight.
We always have higher prices, in part due to higher taxes on said gas, and now the poor exchange rate against the USD since oil and gas is bought and sold in USD the drop in oil isn't so beneficial since the CAD$ is dropping as well.
It's the same kind of gas more or less what you get in WA state.
In my area there is 31.17 cents per liter in provincial fuel tax, provincial carbon tax, and federal excise tax, and 5% good and services tax.
In Metro Vancouver its 42.17 cents per liter in taxes due to a higher provincial tax for transit funding.
My area in theory should be 11 cents per liter cheaper then Metro Vancouver since we don't have the extra transit tax, but the gas companies just keep our price on par with Vancouver (45 mins away) and pocket the extra 11 cents per liter.
And the companies feel no need to compete, they all match one another so no need to shop around, they are all exactly the same price except the station on native land which is 1 cent less normally, but its out of the way, so that 1 cent savings isn't worth while, only 40 cents less per tank for our car roughly...lol
