Price of gas update...

Re: Price of gas update...
Was rather gobsmacked to note that the local cheap 7-Eleven, which had prices falling like a stone and was as low as $1.789 (price for cash AND card) about a week ago, is now advertising at $2.099. Prices in this neck of the woods seem to be climbing as rapidly as they fell

They've been up and down like a whore's knickers round here. Up today. I'm about 150 miles away from needing a fill-up, so you can be damn sure as mustard it'll be up that day too ...

Going up here too. €1.25 per litre today (roughly, $5.40 per US gallon).
I reckon that's due to the rising value of the (petro)dollar against the Euro, but I'd expect that to have null or opposite effect in the US.

Re: Price of gas update...
There is a refinery strike ongoing right now, but that specifically hasn't changed wholesale pricing. The impact is driven by the start of the switchover from the winter to the summer blend and the maintenance, with associated throughput impacts, required to do that.

As we're under 4+ feet of snow and another foot expected on Monday....along with the half foot we're expecting today and again tomorrow

Gas here has gone up about 5c. Costco $1.90, local at $1.96. The explanation on the local news last night was the refineries are switch over to the summer gas blend. FFS it is still February that excuse normally gets trotted out around April time.

What's the difference between winter and summer blend?
Sitting at 1.09 still at the big boys (Chevron, Shell, Petro Canada, and Husky) the independent owned by the native band who generally matches the big boys minus 1 cent, is still 6 cents less, but is on the out skirts of town, so not worth driving to.
I am safe up to 1.55 per liter, after that price point, this job makes no sense to have. We got to 1.50 last summer, so won't surprise me to see 1.55 this summer.
If I had a motor cycle license, and we had better weather year round, I'd buy a little motor cycle to commute with, cars burn way too much gas.

Re: Price of gas update...
I wouldn't even call the one I was looking at a motor cycle since it's really a scooter...lol but the government say's it a motorcycle since its over 49cc
Honda Motorcycle
But it's not worth getting a motor cycle license for, and my commute would probably kill something like this.
GF is just going to get a little 49cc scooter to put around town. Insurance is cheap on them and of course cheaper to obtain when compared to a car.
I get about 27mpg on the Mazda 2 on my commute combined with town driving, my commute is up a mountain, so a lot hills the car struggles with and needs the pedal pressed down.
When we went to Seattle last month, we got up to 33mpg on I-5 but not getting that around here.
