I sold it just before we got married in '79...when we bought a 3 bed 1 bath detached house for £10,000. I forget how much we sold it for 2 years later when we bought a 4 bed house for £40,000 in '81. Wow those figures seem like toy money now.

No not for show, but because I am able to afford the luxury of a nice big SUV and do not need to worry about the cost of running it.

Is that regular or super?? or are you rich enough to afford premium???

I filled up with regular this evening and it cost me $3.65 for cash.

That's Alaska vs New Jersey, it varies quite a bit state to state. Here it is $4.19 for 87 octane at the cheapest garages.

Petrol in NJ is usually pretty cheap compared to many other states...because the state gas taxes are low.

That is regular, super is $4.49 http://www.alaskagasprices.com/Tesor...230/index.aspx

I drive a Mercedes ML320, I need a 4wd here but didnt want a truck or a huge gas guzzler. Also dear BO has killed the used car market to such an extent that up here everything under 10 years old is rediculously priced so that was what I could afford.

Seems like prices have changed a fair bit over the last week when we were on holiday.

Surprised how cheap it was in Bar Harbor, ME, tourist area, normally well expensive being an island, but was $3.80G within a penny at pretty much every spot.

Much more pricey on the mainland, in the $.3.85-95 range at the start of the week.

Back home, our local BJ's has gone down to $3.77G which is about 5c cheaper and everywhere else are $3.80-85 range, about 10-20c cheaper this week.

Did see a BP station in Framingham that was $3.67 for cash though.

It's up and down like a whore's knickers round our way lately. I filled up the other day when it had dropped from $4.15 down to $4.05 (took a gamble waiting till the end of the day too); then it went to $3.96. This morning, now my tank is starting to drop below half full, it's back up again. $4.06 on the way into work. I'll need to fill up again maybe Friday, so who wants to bet it'll be $4.20 then?

Wow! I never thought I'd see someone comment that just under $3.50 a gallon was a 'sweet price'!!!!!
